im planning on coming to oz in mid october for about 7 months. i want to back pack down the east coast from cairns to sydney, staying in sydney for about 1-2 months around new years for work, and then i want to continue to melbourne, tasmania, adelaide, uluru and alice springs and new zealand.
i want to know if u could help by telling me how much time i would need, taking in mind that i do want to have stop overs and make the most of the places i pass along the way. also i want to know which is the best way to do all this and how much it will cost. and all other helpfull hints you have!
thanx for your help
its me again...
after reading a whole lot of posts in this forum im starting to get a better picture about travelling in oz.
now i know that there are 2 main busses that take u around oz.
from what i understand the oz experience is about drinking and hanging out at pubs with fellow backpackers at night and less about the sightseeing
and the greyhound is more about sight seeing and less about getting drunk each night.
i would like my trip to have both....
can anyone help me with this dilema??
also from what i understood the greyhound is alot cheaper.
If you're planning on staying for 7 months I'd suggest putting a rough itinery of (in order of):
2.5 months (Sydney & Melb)
0.5 months (Tasmania)
1.5 months (New Zealand)
1.5 months (Adelaide & Perth)
0.5 months (Uluru)
It is difficult to avoid meeting with backpackers because they have similar agendas, and are up for a night out most nights (because they aren't working either). Having said that be careful not to get too attached because you'll end up hanging out with the same people and visiting the same pubs without seeing any of the city.
