Hi there

me and my wife would be taking a train from Karlsruhe to Zurich ? Just wondering what would be cheapest way to book it online ?

Or can we just walk into Karlsruhe station and then board the train to Zurich.

And we would be travelling on Saturday in Oct so we have lots of time

Thanks a million

Yes, you can just turn up and go. Tickets cost just under 60euros, and the journey is 3hours long (some direct, many involve a - simple -change in Basel)

Buy tickets through bahn. If you book well in advance, there are normally savings fares as well, though many of these are for return journeys only (you can get savings returns for about 52euros at the moment, so you could buy one of those and then throw away or sell the return journey, and still save money)

If you wanted to save money, buy a ticket to Basel for local trains (changing in Offenberg), and then buy another from there to Zurich.
It will save you roughly 15euros, but take over an hour longer.

You can also buy a special lander [county] to use from Karlsruhe to Basel (again on regional/local trains only) which i'm guessing would be much cheaper than the normal regional ticket, but i don't have the prices to hand. It will be cheaper because two adults share the same ticket.

t_maia is the German lander ticket expert and can probably help you there. Again, you can buy this online at the bahn site.

Laender ticket in this case is 27 EUR if you buy the ticket online or at a vending machine, 29 EUR at the counter. It is valid from 9 am to 3 am the next day and covers both of you.

Travel time from Karlsruhe to Basel SBB is between 3-4 hrs and involves 1-3 changes.

If you have heavy luggage and can afford it the higher priced ticket, I recommend taking the fast train from Karlsruhe either directly or with one change to Zurich.

There are several jokes about the slowness of local trains in Swaben and unfortunately some of them have a bit of truth in them.

It's far too far in the future. You have to wait until about a month or 6weeks beforehand to book.

If, for example, you try and book it for next week, you will see that it shows the prices/charge and allows you to book
