Its not the classic loop of SE Asia that the majority of people do, but I cant see why this would be a problem. I am going in an 'N' shape and most people on here seem to think that its an ok route:
Singapore - Malaysia - Thailand - Laos - Cambodia - Vietnam - Thailand
Sorry I cant be of more help as I have not been yet.

I did it the other way round from you too, but as long as you are not going through places at the wrong time of year in terms of the weather then it shouldn't matter which way round you do it. If you were going to do the reverse of the normal route, you could do the following;

Siem Reap
Siem Reap to Phnom Penh by bus
PP to Ho Chi Minh by bus
work your way up Vietnam by bus/train/plain
fly from Hanoi to Vientiane (or get the bus, but this is not recommended!)
travel by bus through Laos, and enter Thailand via a 2 day trip in a slowboat up the Mekong - a great experience. You'll enter Thailand at the Huay Xai/Chiang Khong border crossing.

Hope this helps - let me know if you need any more info.
