Dres has indicated that this thread is about Indonesia

How do I find impartial, nonbiased honesty in finding a car with driver to make two 8 hour tours of Bali? There are two of us (man and wife) and we would rather pay an honest price for the tours than to ripped off with kick-backs, hear whinning about the cost of gas and of the increased cost of living and made to feel guilty when not buying over-priced things at restaraunts and shops? These thing taint any memories of the country and it´s people.I thought that forums such as this could be one way of hearing the truth and making plans!
One of our lasting memories of Bangkok was as foillows. We were walking in Bangkok and a taxi asked us where we were going. We told him that we were going to the national museum and asked him for directions. He stated that it was a holiday and that it didn´t open for 2 hours. He offered to take us to see another sight during the 2 hours. We got in and, while driving there,he repeatedly tried to get us to go to things like a special state-run sale of jewelry, buy clothing where his uncle worked, help him with the high price of gas, etc. We were delivered at the museum, which was two minutes from where we entered the taxi, to find that it was not a holiday and it had been open for the 2 hours.THere are also many experiences that we have had in many countries where we weren´t seen as a target and where honesty and genuine helpfulness were the rule of the day. We only found that to be true (as of the present date) in Japan, when speaking of asian countries.
Does any one know of a source of reliable and honest information regarding the car?

I'm an American living in Indonesia, I stay in Jakarta but vacation to Bali every once a month. If you're looking for a rental car in bali, there is car rental I always use, you can have it with a driver or without, hourly rates or daily rates. They don't have a website but here is their number +628124642000 or +623617442000, the name is Kadek Rental Car. The driver usually speaks English and for sure not going to take you places you don't want to, but make sure you know where you want to go, so all you have to do is point and go! Good Luck! Btw, it costs around US$35-40 for a daily rent of a nice new Toyota Van, and just give the driver tip of US$5. Good luck!

Hi there,

Im Indonesian, born in Java and since 2001 lives in The Netherlands. Anyway I was on holliday in Bali few years ago and it was absolutely easy to find a car (driver included). Almost every hotel/motel has its own car(s). The thing is, it is not an easy job to find an honest driver for you are tourists (foreign visitor). I wont lie to you, but you have to pay a little bit more money than the natives. Try to go to small lodges and ask if they hire their car.

There were four of us and we have only had to pay around $40 per day ($10 per person). It was a kind of minivan....

I forget the name of the lodge where I slept and where I hired te car. If I can find the name card ofwhich the manager gave to to me, I'll send it to you through this forum.

See ya....

Just another option, Blue Bird Group is a reputable company, which also provides car rental with driver. You can see their web site at www.bluebirdgroup.com

There are a lot of flyers promoting cars, guides and tours (I was at the domestic arrival ) - on the way out. So you can pick and choose one.

By the way, the taxi fare to the downtown area is already fixed according to the distance.

The last time when I would like to just rent a car, they provided the guide too. They said it is included in the car rent. But, it was quite helpful to have the friendly guide telling us about the places.

Have a nice holiday.
