has someone been in the chiang mai area around september? do you think is quite bad for the moonsoon or is not that much ? i would appreciate some advice.

and i was thinking i going to koh samui because i read that its the best place to go in september . But is better to stay in koh samui or better in koh tao or koh Nangyuan and then do some tours? i would like to do some snorkle or some kayak in the Angthong National Marine Park but im not sure if its possible to do from that places.

thanks for all

Hi lazkaotxik,

I can answer part of your question, the bit about Chiang Mai. I have been in Chiang Mai for many years in September and have found it to be rather nice. Yes, it can rain a lot but within a few hours it's normally back to sunshine. Having said that it is, statistically, the month with the highest rainfall (http://www.travelspeak.org/as/thailand/chiangmai/guide/climate.htm).

The reason I say it is nice is that the temperature seems much cooler around this time, and the views are outstanding as the air is much cleaner, a trip up Doi Suthep (The famous temple on the mountain overlooking Chiang Mai) will herald extra special views.

So all in all it depends on what your planning to do in Chiang Mai, if your planning on a long trek then maybe this is not the time. But if you after a more cultural trip then why not, airfares and hotels are much cheaper this time of the year so you'll get even better value from your trip :)

As for Koh Samui, well this is a lovely place. I have also been there on a number of occasions and whilst it is developing very fast it remains a beautiful island with much to offer. If you are looking for a more relaxed time away from it all then possibly Koh Tao or Koh Nangyuan will be better.

Anyway, hope that helps. If you need accommodation advice in Chiang Mai then let me know as I have had lots of experience from living there.

Thanks
