All 54 countries?

Travel Forums Africa and The Middle East All 54 countries?

Just thinking out loud here...

Would it be possible to spend a significant amount of time (ie at least 1 - 2 weeks) in every one of the 54 African countries in a single go? The mind boggles just thinking about it, but...

How long would it take? 1,2,3 years?

How much would it cost?

Are there any countries on the "blacklist" ie not advised to visit or impossible to get in (Zimbabwe might be tricky, what about the Sudan?)

would be awesome to get some opinions from people who think this is a good idea or have even attempted it (you would be a travel god in my eyes)

I am not even going to try the least answering the questions about time and costs but here are some thoughts on this interesting topic:

Africa has a number of unsafe countries and cities and miles of red tape. To name a few countries where travelling around would not be my first choice (not to say it is impossible though):
Somalia, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Democratic Republic Congo, Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic and parts of Tchad and Sudan. That said, you are risking a robbery in cities like Nairobi, Johannesburg, Cape Town or Libreville.

Also, for some countries you need to book a tour otherwise you won't get a visa, for example Libya. A tour would be advisable for Algeria, especially if you want to visit the south and avoid going back to for example Tunisia (because the borders with Morocco are closed). Sudan can take ages to get a visa as well and travelling by yourself is even not recommended in north Kenia. Zimbabwe as you said will be tricky.

Travelling through some countries is difficult and can be expensive as well, for example Gabon or travelling to Equatorial Guinee.

Just some thoughts....;)

54 countries x 1 week = 54 weeks
54 countries x 2 weeks = 108 weeks

Hello KScott:)

I think Howie is making an impressive attempt to do what u are thinking about. Well, maybe he will not go to all the african countires, but he seems to be going through quite a few of them.
Here is a link to the thread he posted about it.
