I have a red rose on my outer thigh that is about 4cm in diameter. It was a present to myself for my 26th birthday in 1979. Did 4 double tequila shooters with beer chasers so I didn't really feel anything - just giggled through the whole process. I'd like to get something else but can't decide what or where I want it. At the time, the one I have cost $10USD - they're not that cheap in the States anymore.

Having 3 myself, I mine as well comment. They arent that bad unless your getting them done as others suggested over bone or soft areas (inner arms). Thankfully, I dont have any done on the inner arms! Most artists charge now on a per square inch of coverage... at least when I got mine a few years ago (5) if that helps anyone.

Word to the wise, if the artist looks drunk or high, he probably is! (one of my friends learned the hard way). Might not be the best idea to go in drunk like some people... cough cough Isadora. However, alcohol can lead to fun times... not always when combined with prescription drugs. In the end, tattoos are art and if you dont like them dont get them.

I tried henna tattoos twice - the first one was a paddle (after a DB race) and the second was a fancy-pants tribal thing on my back, which turned into a nightmare allergic reaction and left a scar for a good 2 years. I just saw a recent report fromm France that showed how street henna tatooers add illegally high doses of a certain chemical to the henna to turn it black, which causes all kinds of simple and serious reactions, usually on the second tattoo. So - no more tattoos for me. It's even scared me off the conventional ink ones.

If you like tattoos, BTW, try reading John Irving's "Until I find You." Lots of tattoo stuff in there.

I also agree with Nicip! I've got a couple of stars on my shoulder blade and found having them done quite relaxing!!
