Put me on the "Blank Canvas List", as well. They're fine on other people but not really my cup of tea, personally.

BTW, in the US a tatoo on a ladies lower back is referred to as a "Tramp Stamp". (No offense Nicip), But jst wondering, is that term used outside of the US?

I had one guy tell me he had a tiger tatoo on the full length of his calf. I asked him why he chose a tiger.

His answer; "Duh! I'm a Leo!"

My response; "Erm...shouldn't your tatoo be a lion then?"

He all of a sudden seemed really embarassed by that exchange.
End of tatoo discussion.

No, in the uk they arnt known as anything of that kind!

A common thing among women over here is to hav a tribal pattern on the bottom of their backs, so it shows out the top their trousers.

so y is it known as that over there then?

Nicip, I do like the rose compass. I also has a friend who has a tiny shamrock on her ankle for her Irish heritage. (At least it's not like putting the wrong Zodiac sign on your body!) LOL!

Hmmmm....as for the "Tramp Stamp"...as far as I know, it was because the trend here seemed to start mostly with strippers years ago and grew from there.

Any other Yanks out there have any idea how that slang term originated?

Personally, I like it because it's different than most of the common tats that people have done. Keep us informed of you decision - or at least me... I like color but it's a personal thing... ;)

The reasonings behind "Tramp Stamp" that I have heard are twofold. One being the strippers of the 70s era having them done. But, over time, it has come to mainly represent women who are also classified as "trailer trash/biker chicks". Sorry - but it's only been the last decade (seems long but it's not) that more and more women have been embracing the lower back tats. I have to say, it's been awhile since I have seen a young woman in a bathing suit without a lower back tat and they are all the same or very similar - mostly a sun tat of some sort. (Not that I go looking for them - most of them are quite large and hard to miss.) When I had mine done, very few women were being tattooed as it was seen as "lower class" or "trashy".

I think the compass tat is great. I have been wanting to get a travel related tat for ages as well but had not yet been able to find a compass that I liked. I tried looking on clipart for a good pic found some that are ok. Go for it I say.

i have a chinese symbol at the top of my back from san francisco and the southern cross on my foot from new zealand.
i found it a little sore but definatly pleasurable. and unfortunatly it can be addictive, i want more but i shouldent.

Thank you Isadora.

You get it. (I mean, not ...just the slang thing...) The point being though, everyone has a choice to adorn themsleves how they feel. I wouldn't have tatoos but then again...you may never wear pearls. I'm pretty sure we would never, ever wear fur, (but then again, I don't know you that well to actually attest to that...)

It is unfortunate, that some people do find stereotypes... (This will kill you...but the first time I watched "MY NAME IS EARL" , was when I was In England!) I thought; "My God! This is how the English actually think of us!" That..or "Friends" for some reason...(We're either Rednecks or Neurotic New Yorkers who have way too much time on our hands to think about a real job!")

OOPS! About tatoos....My, have I ever digressed....
