Hello Clarife:)

I loved Phukett. This was a surprise, becasue I usually dont like major tourist destinations. It is a beautiful exotic island, where u can be a backpacker if u want, but where all kinds of other things are available, for when u want to splash out, and places where package tourists dont go, for when u want to enjoy the local culture. Often exotic locations where package tourists dont go are beautiful and interesting, but try to get a good cup of coffee....

Clairfe,
The island of Boracay in the P.I. is about as close as I've seen to 'paradise'. That is if your idyllic spot is a tropical island.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. Its great to hear that mel as I'll be in Phuket in a couple of months. We're saving roughly a month for the islands in thailand - how long would you recommend staying in Phuket?

Mike, this is my exact idea of Paradise & I plan on finding my own little island somewere

My boyfriends friend told him the islands of the phillipines are amazing - are they easily accessible from thailand, vietnam?

The Layang-Layang Island and also Sipadan.
To get to the Philippines, can get there by ferry or speed boat.
But just dont bump into Abu Sayyaf.

There are many airlines that now fly BKK-MNL. A few start ups offer pretty low rates from other SEA cities as well. Air Asia flies KUL-MNL, Tiger Air flies SIN-MNL, Jet Star Asia flies HKT-MNL. There are fewer flight options from VietNam to MNL. Thus higher prices. Generally, the more competition, the better the price.

The Philippines have thousands of islands to choose from. Perhaps a lesser known island maybe your 'paradise' rather than Boracay. Good Luck in your search.

1) Koh Tao (Thailand).
2) Sipadan (Malaysia).

p.s. You cannot stay at Sipadan and need special permit to enter reef and island.

I agree Mel - l loved Phuket - beautiful island even when it rained (& it rained alot when we were there) great place for scuba and amazing food - make sure you try red snapper fish! We spent around 10 days there.

It was June 3 years ago now we spent 10 days in Phuket - there were days of rain but to be honest it didnt put me off at all l would go back in a flash (if there werent so many other places to visit!)

I didnt eat a lot of fish until recently (now l love fish!) but the red snapper is delicious bbq or roasted - meat falls off the bones and its not at all fishy like some!

Oh you will have such a ball! When are you heading off - when will you be in Vietnam Claire - l should be there in November!
