Thanks

no I am not going back, good luck, watch your back! I have been to Asian and European countries and never felt more unsafe anywhere else like I did in Vietnam, people follow you for 10-15 minutes along the street if you don't buy their junk, I had my bag snatched from across my chest from a motorcycle thief. I am a travel helper for Vietnam and other countries and I've never received so many threads trying to sell me something as I have from Vietnamese sites. Does that give you an idea of how much they will actually hassle you in person??

Bryan unforunately I have just finished travelling through Vietnam so I won't be able to join you, however I want to assure you that for me Vietnam was as safe a country as I've ever been in. I'm sorry to hear the ladies story above but don't let it put you off, you'll have an absolute blast and meet some amazing ppl among the way (both Vietnamese and tourists) Any questions pm me. Have a great trip!!
Ian

i also felt totally safe in Vietnam - yes, you get hassled but people are only trying to make a living, and if you don't want to buy anything just smile and walk away. Once you enter into dialogue with people it's much harder to walk away. I spent 3 months in SE Asia and Vietnam was my joint favourite place along with Myanmar :)

Unfortunately Jaytb has had a bad experience but something like that can happen in any country. I travelled thru vietnam a few weeks ago for bout 16 days and i was alone. It was probably the most memorable part of my trip so far and i felt totally safe anywhere i went. Obiviously as in any country you need to exert some caution but as long as you do you will have a great time. Happy Travelling:)

Vietnamese people are very friendly although they cant speak much English. It will be a trip full of joy, and totally safe, dont worry.
If you need help, pm me, i am living in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Why don't you say how long you wanna spend there so someone could suggest an itinerary for you?
The following cities should be your consideration: Hanoi, Hochiminh city, Halong bay, Hue, Hoi An, Nha trang

Yeah, they just tried to make a living. Behind them they all have poor families and kids waiting for some food when their moms come back from a working and "hassling" day. Be generous. About safety, well, you have pic poc everywhere in the world, the only thing I take it for granted is that this country is one of the safest in the world. Sorry if you experienced any bad lucks, but no insecurities have happened to tourists' lives in this country at all. For more information on safety when traveling in Vietnam, you can check it here before you trip.
