I'm thinking about going to Cologne for a few days in august. Can anyone recommend anywhere that i should go within the city? Bars clubs, sights, places to stay etc. Any help at all would be great:)

Colgone was near destroyed in World War 2 so the Cologne Museum would be on my list of places to see. I've been to Cologne but not to this museum unfortunately.

I understand that it is located in the building that the Nazis occupied and used as the HQ of the state ecret police.

"Prisoners were forced to build their own torture cells in the basement of the building, while Gestapo officers carried out business as usual on the upper floors. By a twist of fate, the building survived the bombing of Cologne, which destroyed some 90%of the buildings standing in the city's downtown"

I'd love to see it.

Wow that sounds amazing, how far away is Cologne from Maastricht in the Netherlands?

Hello lukep

Maastricht is about 66 miles away from Cologne.

Hello Lorcan

In Cologne you must visit the chocolate museum. It's very small, but also interesting and there you can see all the things which people can make with chocolate. :)

And you must visit the dome. From the top you have a wonderful view over Cologne and the "Hohenzollernbrücke".

Also the "Hard Rock Café" is very nice and if you are interesting in it: visit it! ;)

Many greetings

Hello lukep
Maastricht is about 66 miles away from Cologne.

But by train it is still 2 hours and 10 minutes (or 2.40 hrs), busses (Eurolines) are just a little bit faster 1.45 - 2 hours.

Well if you ask me the thing to see in Cologne is the cathedral. It's a spectacular sight and home to the remains of the "Three Kings" from the Bible. Even if you are not interested in religion, their shrine is magnificient. The Cross in the left side chapel is called the "Gero-cross" and dates from the 10th century. If you have an interest in the history of art, you'll have seen a picture of it for sure.

I also really liked the Romano-Germanic Museum.

And for the fun thing to do, there is Phantasialand.
