My girlfriend and I are going on our first post travelling holiday this month and want to pack as much in as possible. We would like to spend a few days in Marakesh, a few at the mountains and a week on a beach? Any tips on routes and hotels would be hugely appreciated. Ken
The wonderful Hotel Essaouira in Marrakech was a great base, in a quiet street in the medina, just near the main square.
Also, give Agadir a miss (it's boring and full of package tourists) but Essaouira's a great town with a laid-back vibe. If you go into the mountains, the Cascades d'Ouzoud are worth seeing and they're only about 3-4 hours from Marrakech.
Go to Fez. It's less touristy than Marrakesh, and more authentic really. Both the Atlas and the Rif mountains are also nice to spend a while in. You can indeed skip Agadir, as Emmelina already said. A better town to visit in the SW of Morocco is Ouarzazate, I think.
Is Morrocco safe for Americans?
Me and my mates spent an awesome week in Agadir and the outskirts..so visit there!
