Hi again!

I'm hoping someone could recommend a hostel in hong kong. Were only gonna be there for around 5 nights. I'm guessing we wanna be in Kowloon and were up for experiencing anything hong kongish.

Thanks

and were up for experiencing anything hong kongish.

Which more or less means Chungking Mansions or the nearby Mirador Mansions, which are, very approximately, legendary (and dodgy looking!) tower blocks containing literally hundreds of hostels and guest houses [as well as other business, private residences, shops and restauarants].

Some are good, some not so good. It's a case of luck. Some you can pre-book. If you can't, just walk by and start knocking on doors (or if you have a big ruckack, you'll be swarmed by hawkers outside)

thanks for your reply gelli. Hong kong is going to be our first stop on our trip starting sept. Do ya think we should pre book somewhere or just wait till we get there?

Except around New Year and major festivals, you can almost always find somewhere just by turning up. However, the quality and standards vary wildly, so if you want to be sure of somewhere reasonable, i'd suggest booking online after having read some comments by people that have stayed there in the past.

Also, some of the very best are small and don't seem to accept bookings, whereas just because you've booked online doesn't mean you'll (a) get something better or (b) what you booked. Admittedly it was around New Year so very busy, but I turned up at one which i had pre-booked and discovered that i was 2floors up from the main guest house, and I was staying in what was actually private apartment housing 4 old people. It was a total heap, only occassionally had a flushing toilet and shower - sometimes they only worked together - unfriendly locals, and a woman who imposed a random curfew each night (it was allegedly 2am, but one night i was shut out arriving back not long after midnight, and ended up having to sleep in a stairwell aong with 2otehrs who got back shortly afterwards...)

Hey Guys!

Me and my friend Jill are heading to Hong Kong for a few days in August as well as travelling around Asia! We decided to book a hostel before going - just so it means we are organised for the first night! If its not up to scratch or what not - we can always go and stay in another one!

Hope you have fun!

Kim
