Quoting lagered

It’s not like living on a island drinking tea and conjuring fire without flint or stone!

Excuse me, but we've been using flint since the 1970s, but since electricity was introduced in 1998 we haven't needed it.

I agree with Wonkerer. I'll gladly give you Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Nebraska. I'll even throw in Indiana just for fun.

I spent half of my formative years growing up in Iowa (Cedar Falls) and the other half in Minnesota (Mankato). (My brother and his family still reside in Iowa City and surrounding towns.) I have spent the rest of my time in Illinois. They are all very similar and one reason they are considered the Midwestern US. Yes, a couple other states are included in there too. But, they all basically have the same agriculture, geological make-up, and the same type of industry. The East Coast, Southwest, West Coast and Mountain states all have different types of agriculture, industry and geological make-up which sets them apart from each other. Residents of each region will view themselves as United Statesians - being part of the whole. But, be cause of the differences mentioned above, they also see themselves separate from the rest of the country by location.

It can be likened to the UK. All of you are "British" because you are part of the Commonwealth. Yet, do Scots not consider themselves different than the Welsh or the English or the Northern Irish? We may not have independent countries but we do have states and regions which set us apart from each other in several ways.

I am guessing as an Englishman I can't really celebrate Independance day. But best (belated) wishes to all.

OK - just to recap - I have, to date, successfully reclaimed, for Her Majesty,:

Texas
California
Iowa
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Illinois
Nebraska
and I still appear to be stuck with Boise, Idaho.

I have a proposal - I will return Boise, Idaho and concede the entire land of Wales in exchange for Alaska and the Eastern Seaboard.

I really dont think Gelli will be at all pleased with this suggestion - how about we trade Isle of Mann for Alaska & the Eastern Seaboard. Could we grab Vegas too (or do we need to take the entire state?) - just for some partying?

You can have Vegas, in exchange for giving Iowa back - it's the beginning of sweet corn season. I really can't do with good sweet corn and Iowa's is most definitely the best!

I'm hoping you meant can't do without sweet corn... Otherwise, Mikey can keep Iowa.

----------

Mikey - we don't want Boise back!! You can keep it and do what you will with it. I will exchange Minnesota for the Easter Seaboard and throw in Oklahoma. A state with 15,000+ lakes (Minnesota) is worth hanging on to so enjoy Oklahoma!

Yes, I do mean I can't do without sweet corn! My brother lives in Oklahoma though (not that we want the state back), but be nice to him and his friends. Lots of beer and scotch for them and all will be fine. He could even fix up your house for you. He's especially good at kitchens. I am also glad to have Minnesota back, even though they like to make fun of Iowans, it's a good state

I guess I should agree with taking back Iowa as my brother lives there. He can paint your house for you. Just don't offer him a beer until he's done for the day or he may just stop painting and go fishing.

Okay - we'll keep Oklahoma just to keep your brother happy too.

Having grown up in both Iowa and Minnesota, I never made fun of Iowans. But, they do seem to have the same rivalry as Wisconsin and Illinois. Wisconsiners are "cheeseheads and brat (as in bratwurst) biters" while Illinoisians are FIBS (F*cking Illinois B*stards). Mikey, since you now have Wisconsin and Illinois, I think you should make Wisconsiners behave themselves.

Since we're keeping Oklahoma, maybe the exchange should be for Kentucky...

Isa - you are free to give away Oklhoma, Mikey will just have to keep them well stocked with alcohol. But somehow I don't foresee that as a problem
