Can anyone recommend a cheap hotel or decent hostel in the centre of Edinburgh? I am going for the weekend on the 17th August and all the accommodation (including on TP) seems to be either booked or very expensive. I don't mind a hostel but I don't really want to stay in a dorm.

Thanks.

yeah u may have to get whatever is offered now - all of August this city is booked. If you dont want a dorm try a BNB

Most of the BNBs are on Gilmore place - try there - its close to the city center.

I know the Star Villa quite well - they may be able to hook u up - i think they are 22 pounds per person.

thanks everyone. i called the place recommended above, and some other guesthouses nearby and they are fully booked too. I think i'm going to go later on in the year instead. :(

That's a shame cos the Edniburgh Festival is pretty cool. Why not visit Glasgow and do a day trip to Edinburgh?

thanks mike - it's just that we were going to take advantage of very cheap train fares to Edinburgh with megatrain. how long would it take to travel between Glasgow and Edinburgh?

Forty five minutes by train or an hour by bus - bus fares are ridiculously cheap.

i saw a really cheap guest house on gilmore place in tollcross the other day. i'll take a look later in to find out some details about contacting them. think they'd advertised bed and breakfast for about £20 per night. they may be booked now also though.
