Hi guys,

This might seem like a silly question but my boyfriend doesn't think I need to bring a hairdryer away (we're going backpacking across asia for 3 months) but I can't imagine going so long without one.

Can any women out there give me there opinion?

Would a hair straightner do? Would a double room in a hostel have spare sockets?

Thanks!

When l stayed in hostels in Oz & NZ Claire l used the travel hairdryer & my straighteners!

I couldnt travel without either - either that or get a hair cut that involves no styling - which l would guess would be a short cut but l dont know if that would be your thing - l certainly couldnt crop my hair!

I couldn't imagine travelling WITH one, but my hair is curly and usually looks just the same if I spend an hour on it or two minutes..

If you bring one along, definitely grab a travel sized hair dryer! They're quite small, and fold up, so it really doesn't take up much room at all.

I've taken mine on a couple of trips, but the temperature was cold, so I needed dry hair!

Thanks again - my boyfriend will be sick!

As long as you're the one who has to carry it, I don't know how he can complain. I have kind of the opposite problem in that I need to put texture IN so my fine straight hair doesn't look too flat and wimpy. I usually use a big curling iron but I think I might get a body perm to put some loose waves in and hopefully able to wash and go. Will test run that theory way ahead of time, though!

i sweat so bad in hot/humid countrys i have to forget about the state of my hair. Its really really thick and as soon as i start sweating it goes up like bouffon really quick. same goes with straightening, i started to not bother cus it was just a waste of time. just if i was going out in the night.

When i was in OZ in the summer my hair was really long. one day returning to our hostel after being out all day in sydney, id had enough. Cus my hair was so thick n long it was making my head sweat and makin me really uncomfortable, so i opened my lil first aid pack which had a small pair of scissors in there and started hacking away at my hair. cut it in the mirror myself 2 shoulder length,it felt so good! after that year n when i was back in the uk having my hair done the hairdresser was like oh my god what the hell has gone on here and i was like just dont ask! i told her in the end she thought i was mental!

Yes, I guess it really depends on the haircut and hair structure... I would consider taking one if I was going to a colder climate - it takes ages for mine to get dry by itself when it is less than +25C, and it is never nice to catch cold while travelling. If it is hot, I just wash my hair and go. That's the best styling for my hair, a good haircut is all that matters
I am sure your boyfriend wants to see you pretty and happy also on the travel ;)

You won't need one in Asia unless you are doing the whole luxury travel thing and will be going to expensive expat restaurants in Hong Kong/Singapore etc. I travelled in Asia for 8 months and didn't miss my hairdryer one bit. You hair will dry so quickly anyway because of the heat. I only ever wore make up about 4 times - Asia is a scruffy backpacker circuit...seriously, don't bother it'll just add weight!
