poor Andy, only one day in Buenos Aires?
I would go to La Boca, there is during the day some activity, many Tango dancers, nice old typical restaurants with good and not expensiv food.colourful painted houses,my favorite place in may be able to get a short visit to Palermo or San Telmo, depend on the hours you have to day is really far to short, but you get an idea about this beatyful city.
Make a deal with a taxi driver that he will give you a small tour on the way to the airport.

Yes, pick one area only to walk around and enjoy, so pick either La Boca, or the northern suburbs (Palermo), or stick to the central parts with the main boulevards (widest street in the world, 22 lanes or something), the Obelisk, parlement buildings and enjoy a good cappuccino on a terrace. Walking around the centre is enjoyable I found and you don't have to rush things at all. No need to visit a lot of buildings, just soke up the atmosphere really.

yah, unfortunate I can´t stay longer, arrive at 7am, leave at midnight, looking forward to eating as much steak as my body can take.
Might have to check out that street, maybe take a taxi to the other side ;)

Consider seeing a tango show, or better still a milonga. I usually advise against them, but if a day is all you have, it may be a good way of spending your evening.
