Amy7785 has indicated that this thread is about Australia

We are just about to leave Sydney and travel up the East coast but reckon we'll only have enought money to get to Cairns or somewhere around there before we have to work again. I've heard mixed reviews of Cairns, some people say its great and some say theres not really much there. We would probably have to work for about a month to a month and a half. Has anyone lived and worked in Cairns, or can you recommend somewhere not too far from Cairns that would be better? Thanks

Outside Cairns there are several places - Mission Beach, Port Douglas and Palm Cove - event Cooktown. For work try the Whitsudnays and the fruit piocking places on the way up.

There will be several places - VChilders is the most famous - unforutnates for the backpackers fire.

This time last year myself and my friends got to Cairns. I had to go home for a bit but they stayed there. It took them over a month to find work. In the end they both had to work 2 part time jobs. One of my mates worked as a cleaner in a hostel and the other was a waitress.
It might be quiet enough for work there now as it's coming into Winter.

We stopped at Airlie Beach, as it was as far north as we needed to go to see the GBR. We didn't work, but I dare say you could find some here. It's only small, but there are plenty of tourists around, and therefore tourist industries.
