Indonesian terror imminent

Article from: AAP

FOREIGN affairs officials today warned of a threat of imminent terrorist attacks in Indonesia, including Bali.
In an upgraded travel advisory, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said terrorists were actively planning attacks which could take place at any time.

The advisory says Australians should reconsider their need to travel to Indonesia.

"There have been recent arrests of high-level terrorist operatives in Indonesia, but we assess terrorists are continuing active planning of attacks,'' it says.

"These attacks could take place at any time and could be imminent.

"Particular care should be taken at this time to avoid known terrorist targets.''

These included Bali and the capital Jakarta.

"Ask yourself whether, given your own personal circumstances, you're comfortable travelling to Indonesia including Bali, knowing that there is a very high threat from terrorism and you may be caught up in a terrorist attack,'' the advisory says.

"Ask yourself whether travel could be deferred or an alternative destination chosen.''

my friends parents are scheduled to go there next week and i go there in november, what does everyone think??

Same for Morocco lately, just because it is highseason.
In general though, after such warnings, things are more safer over there than in you back garden, because no one is going to try attacks anymore and security lives up to the max.....Jippie.....the beach to yourself...;)

The UK is under increased security alert since the attempted bombings here, but I still live here and walk around like a free person. Don't let the terrorists spoil your life, that is what they are trying to do.

Exactly.

But if that would make airfare cheaper and hotel accomodations cheaper... Go ahead live in fear.
But then again Bali is less fan without the cute Australian tourists, they should be on the postcards.

I think that they are always paranoid about Bali and most countries for that matter. I wouldn't take this threat as though you are certain or likely to get blown up if you go to Bali, but more a warning that it is a little higher chance of something like that happening than if you say went to outback Australia. I'm not sure about right now, but the USA has been on the high terror alert with the government warning people against going there almost continuosly since 9/11 and yet I have been there twice since there and felt more safe than I do in most other countries including some areas of Australia. So the government is a travel insurance companies best friend because they make it so most policies are voided for almost every country in the world if a person decides to one of these regions that the government considers as a high risk area.

I am in Bali at the moment I feel very safe - I find the Australian Government makes things seem worse than they are just to cover their backs. I also just came back from a week in Sulawesi and just found out that apparantly you should't travel there. We had no problems and didn't even come across any conflict. I don't think it is any safer in any other country - Indonesia really needs some more business especially with the recent issues with Garuda Air as well.
