Hi guys and gals,
Would you hitch-hike your way if you are a solo female traveller, particularly around Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro?
Travel Forums General Talk Hitch-Hiking for the Female Traveller
Hi guys and gals,

I would do it nowhere,I think it is to risky for a woman to do so.
Hitch-hiking alone is generally considered an unsafe way to travel, esp. for females. At the very, very, very least, you should let people know when and from where you are leaving, when and where you plan to arrive, etc., so you can be tracked a bit more easily if something bad were to happen.
But better not do it at all. Even though the war has been over for a quite some years now, former Yugoslavia is still an area of europe where law enforcement is way below average, so there's a relatively large chance of something happening.

agree with you !
Thanks for everyone's feedback.
I wasn't thinking of hitch-hiking and don't think I ever will cos it's too risky business.
I was seeking tips on how to travel overland between Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro as cheap as possible and someone suggested hitch-hiking saying that it's easier for women travellers.
Granted that it may be easier and cheaper, but safety should be the main concern for all travellers, not just women.
I'm happy that you wont do it.
you know it could end good, then you where lucky,
it could go wrong and to expensiv.
It could cost you your life !! ![]()
Apart from the obvious risk, what's the point of travelling if you are on the edge of your seat wondering what kind of person has picked you up? Even if you do get to your next destination safely, it would take from the whole enjoyment of seeing new countries. Also, from my experience of the twisting, turning, mountainous roads in the Balkans, car drivers there tend to take risks overtaking and so on. We were picked up at the airport in Montenegro by a driver from the hotel we were staying in, and I thought my last hour had come. There seems to be some macho pressure on male drivers to speed, overtake and generally drive recklessly (we noticed this again and again). Of course this is not just a Balkan thing, but this situation combined with narrow mountain roads is lethal. You'd be far better off, and more comfortable in every way, travelling by coach. There is a well-organised network of coach companies operating between the countries you mention, and they are really not too expensive.

No I would not.
It is just not worth the risk.
I used to do it, when I was a teenager, and in my early twenties.
I hope my daughter never does it.
Scour the web, for bargin train and flight fares, instead.
Or else, get a bicycle.

This is kinda off subject, but has anyone ever read "Round Ireland with a Fridge" by Tony Hawk - it's really funny. It's about hitchhiking, hence the correllation, and the idea was based off a bet. Not that I would hitchhike, but the book is a good read![]()
Are you out of your mind?
Or perhaps you born yesterday?
what a stupid question you are asking?
