For architectural wonders, The 3 Gorges Dam should be 1 of them

I vote for another one: Taipei 101. So 5 more to go...

Petronas Twin Towers!

The Utrecht Dom Tower, named after me

The Ocean Dome, Miyazaki

In a similar, though somewhat tongue-in-cheek vein, WorldHum presents the Seven Wonders of the Shrinking Planet, places, things and people that embody ways the planet is shrinking and cultures are colliding.

The world has seven new wonders, to be added to the seven old wonders and, naturally, to the seven wonders of Canada. All this talk of wonders got thinking about the planet’s wonders from a World Hum perspective: places, things and people that embody intriguing ways the globe is shrinking and cultures are evolving and colliding. In short, it prompted us to put together our own list of wonders that are not timeless but entirely of our time, a list of the seven wonders of the shrinking planet.

  • Airworld
  • Dubai
  • Google Earth/Google Maps
  • Manu Chao
  • The Northwest Passage
  • The California Roll
  • The Irish Pub (which replaced Starbucks in Forbidden City after it's recent closure

Maybe we need to start our own list of Seven Wonders - TP style....

By the way - did they give the operating hours for the Irish Pub in the Forbidden City? Just in case I ever get there, I want to make sure it's open and you're around, Greg! (We'll bring the sheep.)

My vote: Hien's ability to eat durian. Oh, and his ability to forgo sleep.

No, no. There's not an Irish pub in the Forbidden City, silly girl. The Irish Pub as a CONCEPT replaced the Starbucks in the Forbidden City on the LIST of the 7 wonders, as there are so many Irish Pubs all over the world - it's reminder of how the world is "shrinking." In fact, I saw an Irish Pub in Ulaan Bataar, Mongolia, though no Irish people. Hmmm, perhaps that's somewhere that DD7 would like to go to!

P.S. is this thread getting off topic?

That will teach me NOT to check the link before posting!!!

Damn, and I was looking forward to having beers with you in the Forbidden City!. Oh, and yes, this thread is getting off topic - mainly because the New Seven Wonders have been decided. But, we can always move it to Off Topic and continue - or let it go and start a new one in OT with TP member's suggestions for their Seven Wonders.

What's wrong with the Irish?? Their fun to drink with - at least from my own experience. It's the Kiwis you have to watch out for... (Notice DD7 didn't list his citizenship - probably Irish, but I digress.)

I thought we'd moved on to the 7 wonders of the TP world...? There are just so many to name... ;)
