Hi everyone

A question for any Irish people who have recently been to Colombia: Since the recent debacle over the escape of the IRA members from Columbia, I have heard that Irish travellers are having real long waits for VISAs to get into the country.

I wondered if that is true, and if anyone has encountered any difficulties travelling there?

hiya !! i had this question as well so i rang the columbian consulate in Iquitos two days ago, (from there we hope to go to Columbia via the Amazon)....

The consulate said that Yes the Irish do need Visa`s but that there is no longer long waits, they have to see you in person at any consulate or embassy, and then will normally grant one. I`d heard somewhere else that they don`t but it turns out that those websites were incorrect .

okay so we`re now in columbia. Even though I rang the consulate before the information they gave me was incorrect !!!

Irish don`t need visas to gain entry but they do sometimes get hassle at certain borders, if this happens then you just quote the following:

resolucion 5525 del 15 de diciembre del 2006.......

Currently travelling in colombia with a few Irish, one got through no questions asked, the other had a little trouble, but this was only because the guy in immigration didnĀ“t know that its ok to let the irish in now. Was sorted out quickly once he explained.
