Hi there, I just posted a similar thread about Mexico...
Anyway, I'd like to visit some of the Caribbean Islands as part of a RTW trip. I've been doing some research and it doesn't seem to be an easy way to get there, other than flying, which can be quite expensive. Is this so?
Also, what Islands/ order/ how long for would you reccomend? We'd be leaving from Cancun.
Thanks a lot!

There are a number of ferries that operate between island groups. There also are ferries that run between the US and the Bahamas. Your best bet is to do a web search for "caribbean ferries". It will invariably turn up links which can point you to which islands can be reached from where. I can't speak to the costs, reliability, or scheduling thought.
As for going from Cancun, I am only aware of ferries to Isla Mujeres and Cozumel.
Many thanks!! I'll have a search on Google. Will fly from Cancun to one of the Islands if necessary!
I know there are ferries between islands like Dominica, Guadeloupe, Martinique and St. Lucia, which are all beautiful islands with lush tropical vegetation as well, so no 'only beach' destinations like the ABC islands or so (which are dry desert looking).
Also, google a bit on Caribbean Airpasses, you might get one cheap which enables you to visit some more islands.
CUBANA DE AVIACION
ARE GOOD AIRLINES GOING TO MOST OF THESE ISLANDS
EITHER FROM CANCUN OR MIAMI (STARTING POINTS)
AS FOR FERRIES NOT QUITE BUT THERE ARE SHIPS LEAVING FROM SOME PORTS IN HONDURAS OR PANAMA
