ilgrech has indicated that this thread is about Thailand

I'm currently in Kuching, Sarawak (Malaysia). I'll catch the plane back to KL and then night train straight away to Butterworth (for 2nights in GeorgeTown). I bought the train ticket between Butterworth and Surat Thani to go to Ko Samui and Ko Pha Ngan. The train arrives at 2200hrs in Surat Thani. Since this is very late, I'd like to sleep in Surat Thani for the night. However I didn't manage to find hostels when I searched on google. Can someone help please because I'm quite lost.

We couldnt find accommodation either and went straight from the train to the port. Ended up getting the first boat we could find - it was a local one and took 8 hours to get to Koh Phan Ngan....we fuond out later there is a ferry that leaves twice daily thats takes an hour and a half....I wouldnt be the best person to give advice on this journey!!!

I did find one listed, never stayed there. The Ban Don Hotel is located corner of Ban Don St & Na Mueng Rd, 250bt/nite. The other option is to ask when your arrive if anyone knows where a cheap room is located. Good Luck.

I cannot help you on hostels in Surat Thani, but for a cheap air conditioned hotel you can try the Grand Saowaluk, it's about THB 850 a night with breakfast, that's about MYR 92 a night if that is within your budget, the Wang Tai is better for just THB 100 Baht more if 2 of you are THB 50 Baht more for a single! Both are 3 star range, Wiang Tai we prefer. Did you try searching on Yahoo Asia ? if a website is hosted in Thailand it might not appear otherwise but yahoo Asia seems to include Asia hosted websites without problem.;)

Thanks guys.

Vegasmike16, by any chance, you don't have an email contact of the BanDon Hotel that you suggested please? The price you quoted is within my budget. I found the telephone number on my rough guide book, but you know, email is sometimes more reliable.

Thanks a lot for your help everyone!

Hello Ilgrech:)

Stay in guesthouse, rather than hostels, in Thailand. U can have your own room, for as little as 5 Euros per night, in most places.
Also, dont book in advance, by phone, or pay a deposit. Just show up. Bookings are often not honoured and deposits usually go missing

Surat Thani

Ban Don Hotel
2 Th Na Meuang
250B per night for a double

Thai Tani
Th Talat Mai
300 Bahts per night for a double

10 -13 Th Mahasawat
260 Bahts per night, for a double

I could not find an e-mail address for Ban Don Hotel. As Mel said, there is no need to book ahead anyway. If given a chance, they will sel your reserved room before you get there. I think your best bet is the Queen Hotel. It is close to the train Station. Cross the street, turn left, walk to the fork, take right fork, 50 meters is the Queen Hotel. Very doubtful it will be full booked. Hope this helps you with your planning.
