I am getting the train from Butterworth to Hat Yai, the train arrives at 10:20am. I am then meeting a friend in Surat Thani and need to be there early evening at the latest because we are getting the ferry to Koh Samui (it’s a hard life being a traveller)!!
I was going to get the train but by the looks of things, the first train that leaves Hat Yai doesn’t get there until night. Doesn’t anyone know how often Bus’s run from Hat Yai to Surat Thani ? I have tried to find this information, but not having much luck.
Anyone who has any info on the quickest route from Hat Yai to Surat Thani it will be much appreciated ? or I am just better going the night before and spending 1 night in Surat Thani?
By minivan. Once you reach Hatyai, tell the cab driver that you wants to go to คิวรถตู้ (Kiwrottoo). Its a minivan station in Hadyai. It runs faster than Buses and trains. Its about 6-8 hours depending on how fast the driver drives. When you get to Kiwrottoo, ask somebody for minivan to Suratthani because there are lots of minivans which are also going to other provinces.
Enjoy your trip.
5 air con buses go from Hat Yai daily, so there should be one to get u there, at a decent hour.
The journey takes 5 to 6 hours.
The bus station is located off Th Siphunawat, around 2 KM east of the town center.

Thanks for your replies !!
Think I will just head straight to the bus station once I arrive in Hat Yai and catch the first bus to Surat Thani.
opospa, if I want to go from Hadyai to Pakbara best option for me is start from Kiwrottoo too? Am I understand right?
If from Hadyai to Pakbara, it is better for you to take bus there.
You have to go to ขนส่ง (Khon Song Bus Station) in Hadyai to catch a bus there.
The last time i took bus to Pakbara was quite long time ago. That time, we used to notice the bus by its colour. Not the number. The colour of the bus to Pakbara is Orange. I am not so sure about these days.
Minivans run for a longer journey. Like Hadyai-Pattalung, Nakorn Sri Thammarat etc.
Enjoy you trip
