mcsquill has indicated that this thread is about Canada

We have booked flights for the first two weeks in May to Vancouver and return from Calgary.
Can anyone give any specific towns/areas to travel to in between these points and recommendations on how to get there?

I have been to Whistler and Kelowna.

Whistler isn't exactly between Calgary and Kelowna, but does make a nice couple day trip away from Vancouver. Bus schedule up to Whistler can be found here: Once there, lots of fun outdoorsy stuff to do. The hills may still be open for skiing that time of year - at the very least the glacier still should be open. Additionally, that time of year the mountain bike park would just be opening.

Kelowna can be reached by greyhound from Vancouver. is the official tourism website. May might be a little cool for a dip in the lake, but a boat ride, hanging out by the water, bike ride around the lake, lots of ski resorts nearby.

I'm sure there are a million other great places in the Rockies to visit as well.

Be sure to spend some time in the national parks. I just came back home from working in Lake Louise in Banff national park for 9 months and I can tell you that its one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The town of banff is nice, but it's very touristy. But there are many places you can stay, either camping or in a hostel, that arent as touristy.
