My friend and I are planning to go to Cambodia for 7 days in September. The original plan was to spend 3 days in Phnom Penh and 4 days in Sieam Reap (including travelling). We cannot extend our trip because that's the only time we have.
However, we are wondering if we can visit Vietnam as well in that short time. Maybe spend like 2 days in Vietnam and only 5 days in Cambodia. Is that adviseable? Is there any public transportation from Vietnam to Phnom Penh that is safe for us to go? Or should we just stick to our original plan?
Any advice will be very appreciated, since this is the first time the two of us (we both females) will go to Cambodia. By ourselves.
I`d just stick to Cambodia since you dont have much time , and try vietnam again.
If you are traveling overland with only 2 days to spare in vietnam then the only place you are going to see is Saigon Maybe the mekong Delts or Chu chi if you really cram it all in.But considering the traveling time and how rushed you will be , if it was me I`d just relax a bit more in Cambodia , even though you have not got loads of time in Cambodia i think 3 days in phnom penh and 4 days in siem reap is just about enough to see the hot spots without rushing to much , so i`d just stick to Cambodia.
I would stick to your original plan - otherwise you will sacrifice seeing cambodia properly for the sake of a fleeting visit to Vietnam. a week in cambodia to see PP and SR/Angkor is perfect as it gives you plenty of time to explore the temples and enough time to do the sights of PP.
Its shouldn't be of any problem to spend 5 days in Cambodia, in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap and another 2 days in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. In fact I did had 2 days of stay in Phnom Penh and about 5 days in HCM city late last year. Of course I would readily admit that you'd have more things to explore in HCM city. If you can spend 2 nights in HCMC, you can should engage tours to Chu Chi Tunnel and/or Cao Dai Holysee. Its a full day tour and costs less than USD15. You can also choose to go just Chu Chi Tunnel for half day tour if you don't facy Cao Dai. For your second day, you may want to spend your time at the Mekong Delta, crusing and enjoying the scenes. There are regular bus service from Phnom Penh to HCM city. Check at the main bus terminal in Phnom Penh near the Central Market. The Phnom Penh Sorya Transport service is good, with clean and comfortable coach. The direct journey, Phnom Penh-HCM city takes about 6 hours journey. Take the 8am bus and you'll reach HCM city at 2pm. There be 1 stop for lunch just before the bus reach the Cambodian immigration in Bavet. In Phnom Penh, 2 nights would also be suffice. Visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, Wat Phnom, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, Russian Market and Central Market. Take a bus to Siem Reap with the same bus company which takes abt 6 hours to reach.
okay, thank you so much for all the feedbacks. my friend and i decided that we will focus this trip to PP and SR only. maybe the two of us can visit vietnam another time
I did siem riep only 3 days and i think it's enough to cover up the high light of siem riep. Phanom Penh just one night is more than enough..nothing much to do except museum and the killing field.
There is open tour from phanom penh to saigon, quite cheap and takes around 10 hours....
you can take a glimps of vietnam before going back home and come back for more.
Day 1. Arrive Siem Riep. Sunset at Phanom Bakeng
Day 2. Banteay Srei, Taprom , Angkor Thom , Angkor Wat.
Day 3. Ferry to Phanom Penh. A little sight seeing. Overnight in Phanom Penh
Day 4. Open bus to Saigon. Overnight in Saigon.
Day 5 : Mekong Delta
Day 6 : Cu Chi Tunnel or some other interesting place
Day 7 : Back Home
I think you would have a better time if you spaced things out and done Vietnam separate.
Being on a tight time schedule can take away the experience because you dont take it all in .
