Yes, it's doable for that price. But when you leave LA and go to Yosemite, Death Valley, and Vegas you are actually going inland--not along the coast. If you want to see the coast, go north to San Francisco, then east to Yosemite, and across the mountain range while still in the park (only open in the summer), then south to Death Valley and into Vegas. (Make sure to take your sunscreen--even in May, Death Valley gets really hot.

Also, I would check the dates for this trip--since the pass over the mountains in Yosemite normally opens around May 1st, but sometimes can be delayed until around May 15th. So don't plan on getting there until this date, or else you could end up having to drive an extra 150 miles (180 kilometres) you hadn't planned on if there is still snow covering the passes.

Enjoy

Love ya Cal!

Hey Mates! That is such an ambitious itinerary...wasn't even sure where to start! Skip LA altogether and head to SF. (Or SD...anywhere BUT LA!) I really wish they built a HUGE overpass from San Diego to San Francisco as L.A. is a human wasteland. Even going to Hollywood...is a tremendous let-down. California has so much more to offer.

Death Valley? (*shudder*), had to drive through this "No Man's Land" more than I'd ever want to think about..."I'ts hot...it's desolate..has mountains and looks about as inhabital as the moon!"

Vegas....well...it's Vegas all right. (Turned down my last trip there..It's HOT duriing summer! The Venetian, Paris, NY, NY Why do you think they only mimic NICE places?...Ever see a really nice place mimic Vegas???)

Are you going to be staying in Vancouver for a couple of days, or are you going straight from the airport to Whistler? If you are staying in Vancouver, find a hotel in the downtown area because that's where the best pubs and restaurants are, and you are close to the local beaches, Stanley Park, etc. If you are just going to Whistler, there are no trains from the airport to Whistler. True, they are currently extending the skytrain line from Vancouver to the airport but that won't be completed until 2010. The Whistler train departs from North Vancouver. But, there are buses that go from the airport to Whistler. Ski season is over in May but there are so many other things to do there - golf, mountain biking, fishing, etc. and of course the great night life. Have fun!

Cheers,
