I'm planning to go for a two days visit in Northumberland. Been checking the net for places to vist in Northumberland and seems that two days are not enough to cover all the places that are consired 'attractions' in the website. What I have in mind now is only Alnwick Castle. Love to see old buildings and beautiful scenery. Appreciate helps and suggestions ...
So, i guess you've been there, right? How's the trip? Mind to share?
I live in Newcastle which would be the base for any trip to Northumberland. Alnwick is nice but others places that are must see are Bamburgh Castle up the coast, its on the one the best beaches in the country and Hadrian's Wall.
Newcastle's also a decent night out!
I was in Northumberland 2 years ago. It is beautiful and I'd return tomorrow if I could. Not touristy. Check out Holy Island. It is a beautiful island/village that is only accessible certain times of the day because of the ocean currents. So once on the island, you cannot get off after around 9.00 pm in the summer. Dates back to the 11th century.
There are lovely B&B's in the area. We stayed in a converted 17th century mansion for 18 pounds per person, per night.
whatever you do, please avoid nearby Middlesbrough- it is not a desirable place for anyone to visit.
I am based here whist studying at university and can't wait to say goodbye to the dump!!
