Hello!!

Me and a friend have decided to go by greyhound bus while in Aus, travelling from Sydney to Cairns. We were just wondering if anyone has any experiences of travelling this route or with greyhound and if it is better to buy the tickets before leaving the UK or to buy them when we're over there-is it cheaper either way?

Thanks!!
Alex

Probably cheaper buying the fare here cos the company over there will charge you a fee for doing an international transaction. Greyhound are the leaders in bus travel but that doesn't necessarily mean they are the best mode of travel. If you must go by bus then they know what they are doing and make it as comfortable for you as they can. You normally will get quite a few stops on the long route from Sydney to Cairns, primarily for meal breaks. You will also be going from a cool temperate climate into a much warmer temperate climate. have fun

Greyhound is a fine way of travelling, but buses take a long time - Aussie is a big place! If you're gonna be overnighting, take a pillow on board with you. Also hope like mad that there'll be enough room so that you can have a seat each and stretch out a little. Look into flying, you'll be surprised at how cheap flights can be, plus you'll save soooo much time!

Try looking into firefly instead of greyhound, you have more room, i personally found the service a bit better and they are cheaper than greyhound. I've used both greyhound and firefly and would always opt for firefly whenever i can.

Just a thought!

Also if you're looking into prices look into flying like hey_monkee suggested, i flew from sydney to cairns in 2005 and it cost $160.

Ok, thanks guys, we're gonna be making a few stops off along the way not do it all in one go, so flying not an option. Will definitely look into firefly though. Jas did you nook your ticket with them in Aus or from home?

Cheers again!

No, i booked it while i was there, not sure if it would be cheaper to do it from home or there, i'm guessing that it would be cheaper to book it there. Anyway, it's so easy. It's just like getting a bus ticket.

Have fun, wish i was there still!!!!!
