Hi, I've hit a brick wall - can someone please help?!
I'm looking to fly to Bucharest for a few days, then spend a few nights in Sofia - using overnight sleeper trains to save on accommodation costs. I've found details of train times, but can't seem to find a site that displays the prices or lets you book the tickets - is there such a site?
My trip is likely to be in December, any tips on either of these 2 cities would also be much appreciated!
Hey, not sure of a website that has timetables. I did however travel from Czech Rep --> Sofia via Bucharest, and it was the train from hell. Expect the train to be several hours off leaving and arriving(though, the trip from Bucharest to Sofia was much better than the trip into Bucharest). There is only one ticket booth that has an English speaker, booth #1 or 2, and it is hidden a bit away from the rest of the tellers. If you get stuck waiting around the station, be very wary -- plenty of people looking to rip you off. Sorry for the warnings, just had a bad experience on that exact same train route and most people were extremely unhelpful in the station. But not everyone, some teens helped me out a ton--but I'd strongly recommend being prepared before you go.
Try www.jizdenka.cz for an estimate of train prices. Play around with it until you get what you want and print it out. You should be able to buy exactly this ticket (minus the reservation) for the price shown in the UK from any place selling train tickets.
