Quoting bex76

Sorry i am probably being really thick here (especially since I work in IT!) but how exactly do you use the quote button? It never seems be right when i use it.

Well, you click on it, and then it prefills the textfield with the quoted post, wrapped in the quote simplecode, like so:
[quote=name of the poster]text of the post[/quote]
Then (optionally) you snip the parts of that post which aren't relevant to your reply (like I did with "thanks!"), write your reply to the quoted bit right behind the closing "[/quote]", and hit submit.

If that doesn't answer your question, could you clarify what you mean about "never seems right"?

edit: oh wait, you're talking about the quote button, not the quote link.
It's not that much different, really. You click on it once to create the first [quote] tag. Then you copy/paste the text which you're quoting. And then you click on the button again to create the closing [/quote] tag.

You almost got it right, just switching the start and close tags. (All close tags have the / as the second character, start tags don't.)
