Just read in the paper about Chavez's warning to foreign visitors to Venezuela.

"How long are we going to allow a person- from another country in the world- to come to our own house to say there's a dictatorship here, that the president is a tyrant and nobody does anything about it?"

full news story

Foreigners will be deported if found "denigrating" his leadership.

Just thought this might be an interesting topic for discussion, either about Chavez 'unique' leadership or about the possibility for deportation from a foreign country for such a reason...

Well, at least he is an entertaining tyrant.
And I think he would call off the deportation if the foreigner apologises.

When I saw the title I thought it was a new rule for this forum, by the mods ... :(

Isnt it already one of the rules?
The unwritten ones?

I can think of some other websites this is more applicable to than TP, Herr B :)

I'd rather not start a Chavez-thread, because this is bound to turn into a quarrel over his policies rather than his leadership style... But, to tender a truism, I think that any self-confident leader would (should?) welcome criticism, rather than dismiss it, or worse deny others the possibility to criticise him.

Isa now returns this thread to it's regularly scheduled topic.

Well, at least he is an entertaining tyrant.

I always thought Turkmenabashi was the most entertaining tyrant... Guess he has a rival for the title now ;)

But he is the most entertaining dead tyrant still...;)
Also, Kim Jung Il can compete with Chavez and he succeeds much better
