Hi, My flight next June will arrive at the new international airport in Bangkok after 11pm. I have been researching my options to get from the airport to Pattaya. Many websites have yet to be updated re new airport. I understand there is a bus (106Baht) that runs each day at 0900, 1300 & 1700. I believe I have two options ie stay in accom. nearby and return next morning to the airport to catch the bus OR have my friend in Pattaya prebook a taxi to pick me up upon arrival (which would probably cost around 1000-1200Baht if not more given the time). Has anyone been in this situation? Can anyone recommend a cheap room (given I would probably only have my head down for 6-7 hrs) near the NEW international airport? Fortunately, I have time on my side to consider the cost options. Any advice appreciated.

Steve,
My friend flew into Suvarnabhumi in May. He lives in Pattaya 6 months every year, Vegas the rest. There are taxis waiting when you arrive. Most US-BKK flights arrive late at night, so no problem with transport.

Here is what you do. Take a piece of cardboard or long paper with you in your carryon bag. Write; "Pattaya" on it. When you are at baggage claim and going through Imm. & Customs, hold up your sign. Guaranteed someone else on our plane or others in baggage claim are going to Pattaya. My friend has done this so many times that he now walks down the aisle of the plane when getting close to BKK and ask guys if they are going to Pattaya. He always finds another guy or two heading to Pattaya and splits the cost of the taxi. Now you are paying 300-500 baht each to get into town instead of 1k.

PM me if you have Pattaya questions.

My flights from the U.S. come in around 11 pm now (NWA.) I head into town and check into a cheap 600/690 baht (AirCon) hotel. After a quick clean up I have a few beers on the street and hit the sack. In the morning, after a good breakfast, around 10 or 11 a.m. I take the Skytrain to the Ekamai bus station. At Ekamai I take the VIP bus to Pattaya for around 118 baht. Sometimes I share a taxi to the Sukhumvit area from the airport - usually not! I am out a total just around 1000 baht if I stay in Bangkok for taxi and hotel.

I like taking the first night in the "big city" anyway. I like to see what changes have taken place, I can always find a street bar for a few beers before I turn in. While I am at my cheap hotel (Business Inn, Sukhumvit Soi 11/1 or President Inn, same soi,) I reserve a room for my last night before going home.

If I arrived during the daytime, like I used to on China Airlines, I would probably take one of the buses to Pattaya.

Even if you get to share a taxi to Pattaya you will still have to pay full price for a hotel room even if you arrive around 4 in the morning. So it is up to you.

Even when you
