Dont worry people i know im replying to my own post, my Visa got processed in under 2 hrs, guess they had alot of time on there hands, not sure what that other password was for, but i printed off the visa no. ect. So all is go for Nov 1st :)

I want to get my visa put in my passport as well, i know it says i dont have to, but just so i dont have to carry another bit of paper around with me.

All thats is left now is packing, and learning how to wash clothes, im not domesticated, cant use a washing machine, and cant cook, as my ex told me i warm food up....I'm sure ill be fine in Australia on my own for 1 year

Just finished my application and had exactly the same problem with the password!

Does anyone know if you are tied to the exact date of entry into Australia that you put on the WHV application?

Cheers

You're not. You have one year from the date the visa was issues to actually enter the country.

I don't think there's a quote (except perhaps for certain countries, or maybe a really high quota overall), but according to this blog post by majito, there were 113,000 for 2005/2006.

Got my Visa granted on Saturday so its all systems go, I plan to arrive in Oz either at the start of Oct or Start of Nov, just pricing flights.

From reading other peoples posts it seems accommodation could be hard come by around Christmas, just wondering whether to block book a hostel now or wait until I arrive!

If you want to stay in Sydney for Christmas and especially New Years, book now, and hope you're really very lucky to still be able to actually find someplace to book. (edit: actually, that's from reports, but quickly looking at the accommodation option here at travellerspoint, I still see four hostels/cheap hotels with beds free on the night of the 31st. I guess those aren't the most popular places to stay at, but still not as bad as I'd thought.)
Otherwise you should be fine with booking by late November or thereabouts, once you've had a couple of weeks to get your bearings.

Just a quick question following on from this....

I intend going to NZ next June for 12 months, so once I have applied for my WHV, how long do I have before I enter the country? I mean, is there a time limit on how long I can leave it after being approved and then entering the country? Is it like Oz, where you supply an entrance date, and then you have 12 months to enter the country after that date?

Also, after my 12 months in NZ, I want to go to Oz for a few months on a tourist visa. Then I would like to go back to NZ for a few weeks on a tourist visa just to catch up on the things I missed the first time, but not to work. Does anyone know if there are any restictions on doing this?

Thanks!

Not quite. It's 12 months from the date the visa was issued (so basically 12 months and a couple of days from the date you submit your application)), not from the date you've specified (and that holds for Australia as well).

Also, after my 12 months in NZ, I want to go to Oz for a few months on a tourist visa. Then I would like to go back to NZ for a few weeks on a tourist visa just to catch up on the things I missed the first time, but not to work. Does anyone know if there are any restictions on doing this?

There aren't. I did the same with returning to New Zealand, and as long as you hold an outbound ticket again and stay for less than three months, they'll smile at you and say "welcome back".
There is one potential issue which I should mention for completeness' sake, and that's regarding taxes. If you leave New Zealand before the tax year is over, you can get money back early with a form specifying that you're leaving the country permanently, but you must declare that for the year after that form is sent (or maybe in the timeperiod up to the end of the tax year; I forget which exactly - if this is an issue for you, you'll want to look that up to be certain), you will be in the country for a maximum of 45 days (iirc).
45 days might be enough for your "few weeks", and I somehow doubt they'd check that at immigration anyway, but ideally you'd not even potentially want to get into trouble because of that.
