i will be traveling from argentina to peru on motorcycle in a few months. how are customs and borders? are they very strict? i will have a passport with visas on me. will this be enough. i am an american citizen (not sure if that makes a difference) any words would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Generally borders weren't bad for me, but I was crossing on buses. Not sure if you are driving yourself.

The big thing might be if you need a carnet for your motorbike. You might want to check out this site: carnet de passage. Looks like you won't need one, but you might want to make sure.
