Travelling alone in Mexico depends on two things, your travelling experience and the places you want to visit. If you are planning the classic touristic places, and I mean, beaches like Cancun, Huatulco, Mazatlan, Veracruz, etc... or big cities for a cultural travel like Puebla, Mexico City, Guanajuato, etc... then you are O.K. by your own. If you look for an adventure travel, hiking in the mountains, diving in the sea, camping in the woods, etc... then you need companion and the advise of some experienced person that knows the place you want to go.
And also depends on you, some people like to travel with companion, some others don't, but most of Mexico is safe for the lone traveller.
Have a nice trip.

I agree with Mariano. Mexico is for the most part a very good place to travel. However if
you are looking to do some 'off the beaten track' travel, look to a good locally run
operator. The non-mexican based companies can't do any of the really cool stuff.

The best areas to start in Mexico is in the south east loads to do and it's pretty calm.
Tourists are also well taken care of by the locals, especially outside of the tourist areas.

Any other questions don't hestitate to drop a note.

I am traveling to Mexico city on 2nd of September and will be in Mexico city exploring various places and from 6th to 9th of September I will be in Cancun again exploring Mayan architecture and lot of other interesting and fun stuff.

I have fully paid resort accommodation in Cancun and I am booking a hotel in Mexico city tomorrow or so.

I would like a companion who may be interested in exploring new places, new adventures and have fun.

I am traveling alone and would certainly like a companion.

I will be travelling alone to Puerto Vallarta March 4/06. All inclusive, but I would really like a companion. Any tips for a woman travelling Mexico alone?
Look forward to hearing from you!

I'm a 37 year old Spanish-speaking Australian female landing in México City on 12 September 2006. I plan on travelling for about 5 weeks and at this stage I hope to travel down to Oaxaca, Puerto Escondido (or thereabouts), San Cristóbal, Campeche and up to the Yucatán Peninsula. However, this itinerary is not yet set in stone! I'm quite content to travel alone but thought it might be nice to meet up with other travellers who may be in those areas at the same time.

You can view my blogs here and here to read more about me.

Let me know if you're interested in catching up in México.
