Hey, I was wondering if it is safe to put my digital camera, iPod, and debit & credit cards through the X-ray machine at the airport. Should I have all these things out of my carry-on bag or will it matter? Sorry if this is a dumb question - I leave in 2 days and I have flying jitters! Thanks ahead of time for any help.
It's perfectly safe, and you can leave them all in the carry-on. (They only want laptops and sometimes video cameras out of the bag, as there's so much electronics inside those that it becomes too much of a jumble together with the rest of the bag for easy scanning.)
They may make you turn on your laptop just to make sure it works (and isn't a decoy), but the x-ray machines emit a kind of low-grade radiation that doesn't effect electronics, or even most traditional film.
Thank you for the replies!!!
I think most modern countries now have film safe scanning machines.
In third world countries, I would ask if their machines are safe, before putting certain items through them.
