Thailand in October - Am I mad?

Travel Forums Asia Thailand in October - Am I mad?

I have to go to Oz for a wedding in November and was planning to stop off in Thailand on the way to chill in a beach hut and get some diving in. My initial thoughts were leaning towards Ko Tao but I've read that October is the worst time ... I can't change my dates so how bad is it .... should I skip Thailand? Where else would be better?

I have to go to Oz

Poor dear

Really hard to predict the weather during October, you could be lucky and not having any rain, but it could of course also rain all the time. Applies for the region, not only Thailand

I'd just not go to an island, because you might be stuck because of a cancelled ferry service ;) .

You could check out the east coast around Krabi on the net, there's some nice beaches a well, Railay Beach at Ao Nang for example.

Just a personal assessment: I don't mind rain as long as it's 30 °C / 85 °F warm ;)

Keep in mind that even in Bangkok or Chiang Mai it is warm enough and sunny enough to get a tan. You don't have to go some where far from Bangkok to get some sun. A beach hut might be something else!

You could go to Pattaya also, long beach for sunning yourself, but use the hotel pool for swimming. Hotels are pretty cheap as well as the restaurants. You can easily "chill out" there, hmmm, sort of an oxymoron, chilling out in a warm place!

You can avoid the "bars" that other posters bring up about Pattaya, no one forces you into those places! Sun yourself during the day and party or relax in the evening. Around 120baht to take the VIP bus from Ekamai bus station to Pattaya - what a deal!

Oh yeah, October may find some places still in "low season" pricing too!

When it rains the rain usually stops in an hour or two anyway! Plenty of sunshine the rest of the day!

Hi guys,

Thanks for the feedback.

Flynn - yeah, I know .. it's such a hard life isn't it ;) ... actually, I was travelling but had to come home early and now have to pay to get out to Oz again for the wedding which is a bit of a bummer cost wise but hey, gives me a chance to visit Thailand which also happens to be the cheapest flight cost Most DefinITEly with you on the temperatures :), just wanted to ensure I wasn't going to get any 'no way - don't go' style feedback.

Karazyal - Have kinda decided to do Bangkok-Chiang Mai-Ko Tao so with you on the heat & sunny bit :). Thanks for suggesting Pattaya but I know a lot of people who've been there and it's definitely NOT my cuppa but cheers anyway.
