Quoting Mel.

What do u think is the biggest problem, in Western society, at the moment?

Mel

Was that your guess on line 2??? Joking, M, joking...that's just how I read it at first.

Biggest problem........hmmm, I suppose "people" is a tad too broad. All of the above are good responses, but I'd have to say fear. We fear too much.

Back to the topic (says Mel, in a smug, goody goody, selfrightous tone of voice).

I dont know what would be the biggest problem in the West, at the moment, but I wonder if we worship the material God too much.
For example, it is no longer possible to live a simple life. If a person lives simply and within their means, they are looked down upon. If a person splashes the cash, they are often living beyond their means and in debt. People expect a certain standard of living here in the West, which is way above what they actually need. Many feel pressure to reach this standard at whatever cost. There is so much dissatisfaction and disappointment in society, because it this.

Disagree completely.

Would your boyfriend or daughter think any less of you for living within your means?

Two more for the list:

  • Wanting things now, instead of enjoying the satisfaction of earning them.
  • Spoiling kids to the point that they expect things, thereby taking away their ability to feel grateful knowing that someone cares enough to offer them something.
