My two cents worth - Nairobi is sadly notorious for robbies and muggings. So be alert at all times and it's advisable not to venture out at night.

We were there for couple of nights to chill before heading home. During that short time, we heard several gun shots. We were told it's becoming quite common as guns are being brought in from neighbouring countries.

Anyway, I usually read up the Travel Advice from the British High Comm's website before travelling. It's very informative and helps you prepare for your travels. Here's the link:

HI Katoto,

Kenya is a beautiful country and like anywhere in the world it has it's problem, but i would advise if you want to go out at night use taxi's from your hotel to and from destination. Also from the airport if you arrange a pick up with the hotel, tour operator you booked with wuld be advisable.
You will definitely enjoy the safari and landsacpe Kenya has to offer!

Enjoy!
