Hi tootsgirly!

I had a look at the website of the German Foreign Office. This is the German visa application form for an english speaking person / Canadian:

http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/diplo/de/WillkommeninD/EinreiseUndAufenthalt/Download/VisumantragEngl.pdf

Doesn't say anything of criminal records and stuff, they are more concerned about you staying in Germany as an economic refugee ;)

I'm not sure you have to apply for a visa anyway, there's a list of states whose nationals don't need a visa which includes Canada, but it also says, as Canadian you could possibly obtain the visa after you already entered .

Just check with the German embassy in Ottawa, if you need a visa and don't worry too much, I certainly never had any trouble with visas for any country ;)

Hello Tootsgirly:)

In order to view your criminal record, u must provide it.
The police are not allowed to make it available to anybody who wants to look at it.
I think, the customs in Germany will know nothing about it and will see no reason to ask, if u are entering Germany with a valid passport.
The only time I had to provide a copy of my police record in Germany, is when I wanted to work on the US army base, in Heidleburg Germany.

Another case of Germany overdoing the paperwork, I think.
I should have a tourist visa, to live in Germany, even though I am from an EU country. This is because I dont work here.
They dont seem to be too serious about it, because I have not renewed it for a few years, and I enter and leave Germany frequently.

I don't know that many countries in the world would actually care less unless it was a terrorism related criminal offence which I highly doubt it would be. I know that America cares, Australia cares, I think the UK does, but most others I can't ever recall even seeing a question on visa applications or entry cards about it.
