Living in Asia for a few moths

Travel Forums Asia Living in Asia for a few moths

Hi, Me and my girlfriend are planning to take something like 5 months, from September to January ,time off to live somewhere in Asia, I am looking for advice on where is a good and cheap place to go spend a few months. My idea is to go somewhere where we can travel, have fun, probably learn something new, and mainly live off some savings (not much money). I heard Thailand and China are pretty cheap and nice places to go. But I have my doubts regarding India or Nepal. So if anyone knows the living conditions and cost or could recommend me what should I do, I’ll appreciate it.
Thanks for your advice.

Hi,

Dont know much about Thailand and China, but I can surely recommend India. Expenses should be around the same what you'll spend in your other options, if not less. But the time spent would be great.

India is a huge country with lots to see. You can easily spend 5 months and still not see most of it. Hill towns like Manali, McLeodganj, Leh are full of foreigners wanting to spend more than a few days. These places are quiet, beautiful places to stay in for a month or a few months. You can get nice, clean accommodation for cheap in these places. There are many other towns you could spend a few months in while traveling around or just staying put.

Feel free to ask if you'd like more info.

Thailand is not cheap compared to other parts of SEA , its pretty commercial and you can spend a bomb if you really want to , I thought Vietnam was a lot cheaper , my accommodation for 3 weeks in Saigon only worked out at £50 , and that was with 2 double beds a bathroom and fan and it was really clean too.
It made me laugh when i got back to England thinking that i could not get a room for one night for that price . .

I agree that Thailand isn't cheap anymore...Vietnam and Cambodia - even Malaysia - are cheaper than Thailand. If I were choosing to live somewhere in Asia it would be one of these countries, there's lots to see and do with good links to the rest of Asia if you want to travel around.
