im new here and planning a trip to Cambodia with my girlfriend next January.
Just a couple of questions for you people in the know ( if you dont mind ).
Well, were planning on going for 4 weeks.Starting in pp then going to Siam reap.kep,Sihanoukville and bamboo island if possible. So question 1, its going to be a busy time of year so would you suggest booking guesthouses before we get there or risk trying to find one once we arrive? We are talking budget places ok.
question 2,if booking before we get there is it really safe to book places online?i have a thing about giving my credit card details over the net.Anyone know of any reputable companies?
Well thanks for taking time to read this and im sure i will be bothering you with more questions over the next few months.

Glad you joined TP. There is a wealth of information in older posts plus many travel helpers from all the countries you will visit. Somebody should be able to answer any question you will have.
I have gone to SEA over 13 times and never book anything, always just wing it. There are so many low end places to stay in every Cambodian city that you really do not need to book anything in advance. Rarely is a GH fully booked and if it is, just move on to another one. You will always find something in your price range. Probably the best source of info for Cambodia is; 'talesofasia.com'. Gordon lives in Siem Reap and has heaps of good info on his website. I am sure you will bookmark it and refer to it often when planning your trip to Cambodia. He has lists of GHs in Siem Reap, Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville. Many have e-mail addresses if you do want to book something or just to ask a question.
I personally would not send my credit card info to anyone in Cambodia. Send me a PM if you have a specific question.
I once again agree with Mike-
I was in Cambodia in Jan this past year and never once booked anything ahead of tiime- I agree I would not be comfortable giving anyone a cc number. Plus there is a benefit to actually seeing the place before deciding on staying there- there is a fair difference in guesthouses so you prob want a good look before deciding where you want to be.
Dec and Jan are the "high" tourist season in Cambodia , but the only place I ever had any problem in all of SE Asia with plaaces being full was right at New Years Eve in Sihanoukville- I had to go to a different beach than I had planned but still ahd a great time. Even still you will always find something...
