I am going to France for 4 nights end of Aug. Getting the ferry to Calais, anyone got any advise where to go and stay? Thanks

I would go straight to Paris and spend your total time over there. Great place and 4 days is still not too much, but a good time to enjoy the city.

Yeah, I would do what Utrecht says.
Spend all the time in one place, instead of rushing.
If u have not been to Paris before, then why not just go there.

Ok, than I would certainly choose another city, because the countryside isn't that much.
Lille could be an option, but 2 days is enough. Maybe a combination with Brussels?
I personally like Laon as well, which is a bit more east and is a good combiantion with for example St. Quentin, also a pleasant city for a day. So 2 days Lille, 1 day St Quentin and 1 day Laon could be an option.

Many dont like Marsailles, but I went there, last September and I loved it.
U can have a drink, looking out over the harbour and u can take a boat to Chateau D'if(not sure about the spelling). Sit in the cafe, of the island where Chateau D'if is and look out over the sea. Lovely.
And the weather in the South of France is often very nice and warm.
Buy some candy in La Cure Gourmande. Very expensive, but worth the price. If u dont belive them, they will give u a sample to try. I usually think buying such expensive things is just paying for packaging, but the sample showed me otherwise.

How long would that take to drive from Calais? It sounds like a lovely place

Do u mean Marsaille sounds like a lovely place?
I have never owned a car, and never driven anywhere, so I have no clue how long it would take.

It's 1070 kilometers from Calais to Marseille, taking about 9,5 hours
By train however, it is almost half of that traveltime.

How about staying in Albertville and visit the Alpes?
There are many ski resorts around this area, such as Tignes, Val d'Isère, La Plagne, Les Deux alpes, Méribel,.... and their landscapes look as good as they do in winter, if not better.
You could drive to Grenoble which is not far from Lyon, and I guess it's about 800-900 kms far from Calais
