Im abit worried bout bringing that amount of cash with me, will i be able to lodge it to an account either here in Ireland or an account with a bank in Oz before I leave or what should i do? Any advice would be great, cheers (",)

My boyfriend and I are going to OZ on the 10th September and we have already opened up an Australian bank account and transfered money into it. We did this through the company we got our visa's from 'Visafirst'. It was really easy to do. I don't think i'd want to carry all my money on me, and if you leave it in your bank account in Ireland, you'll get charged everytime you withdraw any. Contact 'Visafirst' and ask for their advice you can chat to them live on the net with any questions and they respond instantly.

Enjoy your trip

I can't be of much help, but I would check that visafirst thing out closely reading all the fine print. I live in Australia and haven't heard it mentioned locally and only read of it a couple of times through travel forums so it can't be a big thing. So unless that is just the representing agent of another bank like the Commonwealth Bank, you may have trouble withdrawing your money without getting huge amounts of interbank withdrawal fees especially if it is a visa meaning you'd most likely get cash advance fees if you withdrew cash.

I hope the cards that you get with that visafirst thing are actually a proper bank like ANZ, Commonwealth Bank, West Pac or National Australia Bank. Those four banks are the four big banks that you will find in pretty much any major city in Australia. Commonwealth Bank is the one which you'll find most of in townships as well as the cities, but the others would still be available in many towns or if worsat came to worst you'd just withdraw from another banks ATM and get charged a nasty bank fee. Goodluck

'Visafirst' are just an agency who helped us set up an ANZ bank account.
