Daipayan has indicated that this thread is about Wales

Hi to All,
I am staying in Manchester and, with the rains finally stopping :), planning to visit Wales from 25-27 Aug 07. I would like to visit the mountains (Snowdonia and the Snowdon train is in my list already), best castle, countryside and probably a sea-side place (not beach but perhaps a beautiful island). I am not looking for nightlife. My focus is on nature's beauty.
Can all the experienced people out here help me is preparing a good plan ? I will be taking trains, buses etc (not car), so an itinerary involving that will be really helpful. I am a budget traveller.

Thanks in advance,

Daipayan

Hi Daipayan
Sorry I can't help with Blackpool.

However I have made some fairly extensive notes on North Wales, which you can find through my website on http://www.freewebs.com/kdcx/uk.htm. I recommend going by rail to Blaenau Ffestiniog, from Llandudno Junction and then transferring to the Ffestiniog-Portmadog railway [VERY scenic preserved line] You can then either go to Pyllheli by train or take a bus into the Lleyn peninsula.
I don't think my notes help much on castles. You can pass through Conway castle on the train [!] from Lladdudno Junction to Bangor/Holyhead. It's very good but I suppose the best of all is probably Caernarvon Castle. These castles were built by the Normans to keep the Welsh subjected. You might find the cantrast with Welsh castles interesting. These provide far less to see but Dolbadarn Castle is very convenient if you are using the Snowdon Mountain Railway.
My personal view is that the mountain railway is overpriced and there are some great walking routes up Snowdon - but if you are interested in a rack railway, I don'e think there's another of this type south of Cairn Gorm.

Cheers
David

Thanks David. I am planning to go to Conwy castle first and then proceeding to Betws-y-coed, stay for the day and night, then next day take a sherpa bus to Pen-y-pass from where to trek to Yr Wyddfa. Return to Betws-y-coed same day. Next day take an early morning train to Blaenau Ffestiniog from where to catch the Ffestiniog train to Porthmadog. I have the same day and the next day till afternoon. I can't plan whether to go around Porthmadog or travel to Pwllheli or Abersoch. Can you help me ? How does the overall plan look like ? I will be visiting from 25-28 Aug
