Janne has indicated that this thread is about Australia

I am leaving for oz very very soon.. Starting to get a bit nervous as I am travelling alone.. But of course really really looking forward to the greatest experience of mye life I am ariving in sydney first and am planning to get a job as soon as possible.
I am hoping to stay almost a year on a working holiday visa.
Is there anybody who can give me some last minute tip about: what to pack(or more importand what not to bring)? etc etc etc...
Maybe there is some other usefull information you would like to share?

Cheers ;)

Hi Janne,

I am sure you will have a great trip :)

One tip that someone gave me recently after a trip they had taken was to pack as little as possible and then half it. I think that might have been slightly exaggerated but I know I usually don't end up using half the stuff I take with me, especially to warmer destinations....

Happy travels!

Hi Janne,

I'm from Sydney. If you are coming soon, then you will be arriving at the end of Winter, so no need to bring too many winter clothes.

I'd just bring the normal sort of stuff you'd take if you were going anywhere; ear-plugs, music, camera, etc, etc.

What part of Sydney are you staying in?

Thank you so much both of you for your reply

I am starting to get travelling nerves so I need all the information I can get ;)
I am starting off in the center of Sydney, can`t remember the name of the hostel I am staying at. Am travelling through an agency called Work and Travel, they recently changed the hostel they use and book everybody into the first couple of days. :)

Received by accident in my message center....

Dear Janne
I agree with Sam don't pack too much all the shops over here are having huge sales at the moment as it is the end of winter. There will also be heaps of Op shops in Sydney where you can get good quality second hand clothing especially in the more affluent suburbs. If you are not sure of things for when you get to Sydney try surfing the net to get information there is so much on there these days. One thing you need to remember that our climate is pretty hard on the skin use a good sun screen here even in winter and moisturiser at night keeps away the wrinkles. That is about all i can help with as I haven't lived in Sydney and am living in Melbourne at the moment.

Regards Marion

Hi Janne,

Your hostel will be dead center, near Town Hall station.... it's called Base Backpackers :)

Being a male, I don't know about the need for sunscreen in Winter, but if you are staying near Town Hall that's a good spot. You are in the centre of everything.

As Sam I Am says, there a huge sales on at the moment, however the price of clothing in Australia is a scandal.

If you get into a bother, drop me a line.

Hi Janne,

Also, if you're interested, there is some discussion regarding a
Travellerspoint meetup in Melbourne (possibly in January, but could be anytime) . If you make it down south, why not come along!
