For anyone to help you, you will need to let people know what country your passport is from as what is applicable for Australian people certainly isn't applicable for Indian people etc so it may depend on your nationality.

For Vietnam you are required to get it prior to arrival
For China you definitely need to apply prior to arrival
For Laos it'll depend on your nationality but for most of the major countries ie Australia, UK etc you can get a visa on arrival for $30US which is good for 15 days.

You can check visa requirements for any country and any countries passport through

Al has given as comprehensive an answer as anyone could without certain details - ie what passport you hold.

I can speak for both China and Vietnam - visas were required to be applied for via the embassy with dates and places of resident when in the country. There was a cost attached to both - VN being £38 (only got mine last month so that is pretty much up to date.)

For China you need to both hand it in and collect it in person - they do not post out your visa, although the Vietnamese Embassy will post your visa for you for a fee.

This is for UK passport holders.

If you plan to re-enter China after you get out of the country, you need apply for multiple entry visa.
As for Vietnam & Laos, Malaysian Passport will get 30 day visa upon arrival...if not mistaken..
