Hi there, I will be going to Prague for about 5 days in a couple of months with my boyfriend.
I have never been there before - we are hoping its cheap as we are both skint! haha
Can anyone reccomend a cheap but clean hotel to stay in please?... and also places to go and things to do / see etc any info would be great!
Prague is not THAT cheap, but many things are cheaper than in any "western" european countries.
first time I went there I stayed in "Beta Pension", which is about 15 minutes by tram from the Old Town. I'll be there again in a few days, but as I am going with other people we have chosen a different hostel.
Things to do... well, there are plenty! The main tourist places that really need to be seen, are the Old Town, the Lesser Town, the Castle, Kampa island, Wenceslas Square and Petrin Hill. Prague is a relatively small city, and almost everything is within walking distance. If you go to Petrin Hill and get back by funicular, you will see the National Theatre in front of you, an impressive building, and from there it's a 10 minutes walk to the Charle's Bridge, which is 5 minutes far from the Old town Square, etc... you know what I mean.
Nightlife isn't bad either. I used to go out with 2 belarussian friends who live there, and they really showed me some nice and quite cheap places, right in the old town. So if you wander for a bit you should be able to find some decent place. in my opinion, there are many.
Back to sightseeing, my advice would be to go out early in the morning, when the big tourist mass are still sleeping.
And if you visit the lesser town, go off the marked path, there are several really lonely yet beautiful streets that let you imagine what Prague must have been like before 1989.
Prague is relatively cheap, the going rate for the cheapest hostel beds is 330 CK, around 12 EUR. (Western European average is 18-25 EUR.) Most people budget 35 EUR per day and person in Prague, but real skints might get away with less. Don't go under 20 EUR per day and person though, or you'll be going hungry.
